Com a minha experiência aprendi pelo menos isto: se uma pessoa avançar confiantemente na direcção dos seus sonhos, se se esforçar por viver a vida que imaginou, há-de deparar com um êxito inesperado nas horas rotineiras. Há-de deixar para trás uma porção de coisas e atravessar uma fronteira invisível; leis novas, universais e mais abertas começarão por se estabelecer em redor e dentro dela; ou então as leis velhas hão-de ser expandidas e interpretadas a seu favor num sentido mais liberal, e ela há-de viver com a aquiescência de uma ordem superior de seres. À medida que ela simplificar a sua vida, as leis do universo hão-de parecer-lhe menos complexas, a solidão deixará de ser solidão, a pobreza deixará de ser pobreza, a fraqueza deixará de ser fraqueza. Se construístes castelos no ar, não terá sido em vão esse vosso trabalho; porque eles estão onde deviam estar. Agora, por baixo, colocai os alicerces.
I learned this, at least, by my experiment; that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. He will put some things behind, will pass an invisible boundary; new, universal, and more liberal laws will begin to establish themselves around and within him; or the old laws be expanded, and interpreted in his favor in a more liberal sense, and he will live with the license of a higher order of beings. In proportion as he simplifies his life, the laws of the universe will appear less complex, and solitude will not be solitude, nor poverty poverty, nor weakness weakness. If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.
